Lovers of marine attractions and underwater creatures will enjoy the endless aquariums at Sea Life Nuremberg. Particularly popular with children, this fun attraction is home to a number of large sharks, which are best viewed from the 10-metre / 33-foot underwater tunnel. Also expect to see colourful fish, huge rays, dainty seahorses, small crabs and even some starfish.

One of the city's premier tourist attractions and full of exotic animals from around the world (around 2,000 in total), Nuremberg Zoo lies on the eastern side of the city. Often referred to as the Tiergarten, the zoo has plenty to keep you occupied and entertained for many hours. Ranging from dolphins and sea lions, to hippos and elephants, the Tiergarten also features a cafe area and a good gift shop, where you can purchase souvenirs of your visit. Covering around 150 acres / 61 hectares and founded in the late 1930s, other animal attractions at Nuremberg Zoo include snow leopards, polar bears, tigers, zebras, camels, gorillas and penguins.

A major venue for conferences, concerts and other events in the city, the Meistersingerhalle was built around 50 years ago and is surrounded by appealing green parkland. Amongst the main attractions are the concerts by the Nuremberg Philharmonic, which are always well attended. The Meistersingerhalle is home to six conference rooms and two additional large halls, the biggest of which has a capacity for audiences of more than 2,000 people.

A busy market place whatever the time of year, Hauptmarkt is central to life in Old Town Nuremberg and becomes especially popular at Christmas time, when the seasonal Christkindlesmarkt takes place here. Local produce is often for sale at Hauptmarkt, while nearby, the surrounding medieval architecture, bars and cafes will provide plenty to keep you occupied. The main attractions nearby include the historic Frauenkirche, perhaps better known to visitors as the Church of Our Lady, and also the beautiful Schöner Brunnen, a decorative well painted in gold, red and green.

Nuremberg Dungeons show exactly how prisoners were once treated, with attractions such as a torture chamber and chapel. These dungeons were never actually used as a permanent prison itself, but the 12 prison cells have been here now for around 700 years. The Lochgefängnisse is located beneath the Old Town Hall and guided tours clearly show how times have changed.

The Nuremberg State Theatre has been an important entertainment venue in the city since the early 1960s. Over the years, many famous musicians have graced the stages here, with regular performances by both the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and also the acclaimed Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra. This huge complex comprises the city's Opera House (Opernhaus), easily recognisable by its enormous dome, the adjacent Playhouse Theatre and also a number of additional halls, which are used to host balls, dances and other events. Other attractions include surrounding landscaped gardens and plenty of notable nearby eateries.

An array of astronomical attractions relating to the solar system await at the Nuremberg Planetarium. The large dome hall spans some 20 metres / 66 feet and can seat over 200 people, offering regular astronomy shows where many of the main star constellations are explained using the sky simulator. A cafe (Sternencafé) and gift shop complete the main attractions, together with scientific lectures and space exhibits.
